Em Carey’s Story Of Resilience, Courage & Hope Comes To Launceston

The girl who fell from the sky is telling her story - and inviting others to do the same - in one of Launceston’s most beautiful new spaces.

When Mila Kisuma heard that author, artist and speaker Emma (Em) Carey was coming to Launceston, the vision for an intimate evening of community conversation and collaboration quickly began to take shape. As Founder and Creative Director at brand and design collective Club Coco, Mila recently launched The Club Room, a boutique multi-function space in the heart of Launceston. Already beloved by local small business owners, creatives and entrepreneurs as a co-working hub by day, The Club Room also offers a unique new venue for special events.

Now, the space is preparing to launch its own exciting calendar of bespoke pop-ups, workshops and styled gatherings, debuting with a major event with best-selling author Em Carey on Tuesday 5 August.

“I reached out to Em after seeing on Instagram that she was coming to Launceston, and floated the idea of an evening with our community while she was in the region,” says Mila. “Em instantly fell in love with The Club Room space, and she was all in. We’re so grateful to have her involved in our first major event.”

Em Carey

Gold Coast-based Em rose to prominence after a 14,000-foot fall in a freak skydiving accident left her paralysed at just 20 years old. Her story of resilience, courage and hope in learning to walk again has inspired people around the world, with her memoir The Girl Who Fell From The Sky selling more than half a million copies, and attracting endorsements from Turia Pitt and Dylan Alcott.

Limited to just 30 in-person guests, The Club Room’s cosy meet and speak-style event with Em will explore gratitude, healing and personal strength through meaningful conversation and storytelling. Guests will be treated to light snacks and sparkling wine from local winery Highclare Estate, and have the opportunity to purchase tickets to an event raffle, with all proceeds donated to the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation, a cause close to Em’s heart. A keen artist, Em will also guide guests through a drawing session, and welcome questions about her book, experiences and career.

The Club Room

“Smaller, more intimate events like this one are where the magic happens, because they enable us to open up and share our stories in a really personal and meaningful way,” says Em. “I feel really thankful to have the opportunity to not only connect with new people, but also be invited into such a beautiful, welcoming and creative space at The Club Room.”

While in-person tickets are sold out, the event is set to be live streamed to an unlimited virtual audience, who will be invited to submit their own questions throughout the evening.

“Em’s journey of resilience, courage, hope and finding herself is something that so many of us can relate to,” says Mila. “The Club Room represents a community of creatives who are similarly figuring things out, chasing big ideas, and looking for a place to belong, so having Em share her story and meet our community is the perfect fit for our first big event.”

The Club Room’s exclusive event with Em Carey kicks off at 5:30pm on Tuesday 5 August. Online tickets are priced at $15 each, and are available to book at Club Coco
