At three o’clock in the morning, Ron Francis’ eyes might be trained on a large canvas, his hand holding a brush loaded with oil paint. Painting in the early hours is a perfect situation for the Cygnet-based artist: he could be the only painter on the island, free from the day’s distracting energies.

For someone so dedicated to painting, it is intriguing that photography and the mechanical image are such important influences in James King’s work.
