Tuck Into Battery Point’s Best Breakfasts
By Josie Rozenberg-Clarke
With early 1800s beginnings as an enclave for both working-class dock workers and merchant sailors, the remarkably well-preserved Battery Point is now a Hobart must-visit.
From caffeine lovers’ havens and bakeries, to all-day brunch and gourmet toasties, you’ll start your day off right in the capital city’s most historic suburb.

LEŌHT
Named for the Old English word for “light”, blush-pink Leōht lives the brand with its sun-soaked interiors and dog-friendly front and back outdoor terraces. Even on a rainy day, the café’s indoor wood fire keeps the cosy vibes high. Sip a strawberry iced matcha and tuck into a seasonal, locally-sourced menu of favourites, like dippy eggs from Clucking Good Eggs or pancakes made with Kindred Organics buckwheat flour.

Iconic Hobart bakery Jackman & McRoss is a popular spot for a Battery Point breakfast, whether it’s ducking in to select a baked treat from the wall of breads, pastries, biscuits and pies, or sitting down for a heartier meal. Classics like Eggs Benedict are paired with fresh housemade brioche and sourdough, and if you love what you taste, you can always grab a loaf to take home.
