Multitask Your Leisure Time At These Hobart Hybrid venues

By Josie Rozenberg-Clarke

Wine and books? Arcade games and cocktails? Coffee and homewares? Take a little from Column A and a little from Column B at these multi-use venues around Hobart. From storied establishments to newer hotspots, these hybrid havens are catnip for productive people.

REBA SEAR

Coffee & Homewares

On the way into or out of Huonville you’ll find Reba Sear, a coffee and homewares store housed in an old car mechanic’s workshop on the main drag. Not only does the venue serve excellent coffee and toasties, but while you wait for your flat white, you can browse books and homewares from a mix of local makers and Aussie brands like Kip&Co, Project Ten and Annabel Trends

121 Main Street, Huonville

Monday-Friday, 6.40am-2pm

Saturday, 7am-2pm

Sunday, 8.30am-1pm

FIVE LEAVES LEFT

Wine & Books

It’s not uncommon to be a human Venn diagram of loving both wine and books, which is probably why Five Leaves Left exists. Situated down a side street in Hobart’s CBD, walk into this little space and you’ll see a wall lined with natural and lo-fi wines on the left, and a curated selection of books on the right. The staff are knowledgeable about both offerings, so it’s the perfect spot to pick up an adventurous new drop and a juicy read with which to pair it.

2/41-43 Victoria Street, Hobart

Monday-Tuesday 10am-6pm

Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-8pm

OURS

Drinks & Listening

A showroom with a difference, Ours is a purpose-built listening space ostensibly designed to hear how Pitt & Giblin’s impossibly cool-looking speakers sound IRL. But Ours has also become quite the hub for Hobart’s music lovers to converge on the cushy lounges with a beverage and a bar snack while they enjoy guest DJs putting those speakers to the test. It’s only open on select dates, so follow Ours’ socials for more.

FULLERS

Books & Café

Hobart icon Fullers is a must-visit all year round, but it’s an especially cosy space in the colder months. Shelter from the gloomy weather in this large independent bookstore which boasts seemingly endless shelves stacked with bestsellers and unique staff recs, then settle in at the in-store Afterword Café to spend a lazy arvo with a cuppa, a hot meal and a new book.

131 Collins Street, Hobart

Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm

Saturday, 9am-5pm

Sunday, 10am-4pm

REPLAY BAR

Drinks & Games

Indulge your inner geek at Replay Bar, an inner-city haven filled with vintage arcade games and consoles that will take any millennial or Gen X-er back to the good old days. But, unlike your childhood, this time your gaming session can be accompanied by craft beer and cocktails. When you’re done with nostalgia, give the bar’s new pinball machines a spin, and in the warmer months, discuss your Super Mario strategies out on the deck.

Level 1, 37 Elizabeth Street Mall, Hobart

Tuesday-Saturday, 4pm-midnight

RICHMOND READING ROOM

Coffee & Books

In the historic village of Richmond, you’ll feel like you’ve somehow been transported to ye olde England rather than a town just 25 minutes out of Hobart. Step into the Richmond Reading Room, one of the main street’s gorgeous old sandstone buildings, for a coffee, a pastry and something wonderful to read. There’s rooms full of books to choose from, and even blankets to snuggle under in the colder months - making it even harder to leave.

28A Bridge Street, Richmond

Monday-Friday, 6.30am-1.30pm

Saturday, 7am-midday

BOHO AT THE BEACH

Café & Homewares

The coastal enclave of Kingston Beach is a popular spot for a stroll, a dip and a bit of beachcombing, and Boho at the Beach is a local institution thanks to its combo of coffee and homewares. Grab a takeaway and browse the bohemian-luxe clothing, candles and ceramics, or pull up a chair in the outdoor space and do your damage in the shop after brunch.
